Match Day Beckons

We are very aware that Warriors fans are being bombarded with information at the moment. A day no longer passes without various social media posts and/or email communication from the club. What a change from this time a year ago when we were all waiting with baited breath for any smidgeon of information. As a consequence, I will keep this brief and to the point.

Pre-Season Friendly v Bath

Tomorrow night promises to be a night to remember. The beginning of a new era of professional rugby at Sixways. Here is not the place for a full pre-match report - that is a job done very nicely elsewhere. Suffice to say that Matt Rogerson has been announced as our club captain and will be starting the game in the middle of the back-row. This certainly appears to be an astute appointment given Matt's experience as captain at London Irish; we wish him well in his new role. Matt Everard has named a squad of 28 for the game and there will certainly be bags of experience in the starting XV with five of the line-up having played well over 100 games at the highest club level. The squad have been training hard all week and I am sure they will put on a good show against the reigning treble-winners from down the road.

There is an excellent online match-day programme available to read and watch here. This includes details of a live-streaming service for those unable to make it to Sixways.

Sixways Stadium gates will open at 5.45pm and won't be closing until midnight - make sure you stay on after the game to soak up the atmosphere in the Fan-zone and newly branded Clubhouse Bar.

We had hoped to have the WWST Cabin up and running for tomorrow night. Unfortunately, just 3 days before delivery date, while awaiting a cladding of larch-wood, it was stolen from our supplier's storage warehouse, along with several other cabins and expensive plant-machinery. We very much hope that a replacement will be delivered in time for our first home league game against Coventry RFC. In the meantime we will be manning a gazebo in the North West corner of the ground under the Weeping Willow and adjacent to the brand new Scrum-Club extension marquee. Do come along and have a chat! There will also be opportunity to join up or make a donation to our Warriors' Youth Development fund. If you haven't yet picked up your free WWST Members Pin-Badge then these will also be available.

Sixways SOS Seat-clean

The two Sixways SOS volunteer days were a huge success and we put in some serious work towards getting the stadium ready for tomorrow night. All the stadium seats were cleaned and you all pitched in with painting, litter-picking, gardening, sweeping and may other invaluable tasks.

In turn, as volunteers ourselves, we would also like to thank the club for their hospitality including the endless cups of tea, bacon sarnies and Kit-Kats. It was a real pleasure for supporters to become involved and to feel genuinely valued. Much gratitude to the 120+ people who rocked up and got stuck in; the WWST board would like to add our thanks to those already expressed by the club:

Away League matches

The away games will soon be coming thick and fast. If you are intending to travel please consider using the WWST coaches which, numbers permitting, will be put on for every league fixture. The earlier you commit to travelling with us the easier it becomes for us to organise appropriate vehicles.

Last week's travel to Ampthill was, I think, a huge success and the league fixtures will follow a similar blue-print. The upcoming October games against Hartpury & Doncaster are already open to purchase tickets as is the Cornish Pirates match on the weekend of March 28th next year. The latter will be treated a little differently due to the distances involved and we will be staying overnight to make it that much more of a special occasion.

Hoping to see many of you tomorrow night for more of the above....
