Last night we held the first meeting of our working group with 6 members and 2 guests from other Supporters Trusts present. We met for 2 hours and had a wide-ranging discussion about the formation of a Worcester Warriors Supporters Trust.
The points of most significant interest were as follows:
Aims of WWST
The primary aim of a Supporters Trust would be to re-establish a Men's Worcester Warriors Rugby team, playing league rugby at Sixways Stadium with the ambition of achieving elite level rugby as soon as possible.
To give Worcester Warriors supporters a collective voice, strengthening their influence over the running of the club and working under one banner with WRSC.
Medium and long-term aims were discussed but these will be established democratically once WWST has been formerly launched.
Public Open Meeting
We will be organising an open meeting as soon as possible (within 4 weeks) at which we will:
Present the concept of a Supporters Trust and the potential benefits it may have.
Explain the work of Community Benefit Societies.
Allow questions to be asked by the supporter base.
Invite a local established Supporters Trust along to talk about their experiences.
Establish democratic mandate to proceed with Trust set up.
Introduce “working party” who will take the process forward and form first board until AGM and elections have been held.
This meeting will be widely advertised in local media, on social media and in community outlets such as pubs, libraries and schools. Do not miss your chance to attend and be part of a historic process.
After watching the final game played by Worcester Warriors my enthusiasm for rugby was knocked for six. At this time I am unsure what will spark me back to rugby but I need to make the effort to attend the public meeting. I'm sure that I'm not the only one. If I do go to Sixways it will be to cheer on whoever is playing Wasps, but I don't think I will be. I have no intention of lining the pockets of the Atlas group.
